Dr. Ryan Board, Visiting Assitant Professor of Choral Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, is garnering international attention as a guest conductor and clinician. Choirs under Dr. Board’s direction have performed at such notable venues as the National American Choral Directors Association Convention and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival’s Spotlight Series. At UMKC, he conducts the Conservatory Singers, teaches undergraduate and graduate conducting, graduate choral literature, and successfully leads the graduate choral conducting program. Dr. Board was the founder, conductor and artistic director of the highly acclaimed Armonia Early Music Ensemble of Kansas City and currently directs the Conservatory Collegium Vocale. Previously, Board taught public-school music in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and was the Associate Music Director for the World Vision Youth Ambassador Program for which he performed and conducted in over 18 countries. After completing his Masters Degree, Board was the Assistant Conductor of the New Jersey Masterwork Chorus, Assistant Conductor and tenor soloist at Trinity Episcopal Church, Princeton, and Adjunct Choral Faculty at William Paterson University. He has performed with such notable early music ensembles as Fuma Sacra, and the Choral Scholars both of Princeton. Dr. Board and recent performances under his baton have been hailed as “powerfully musical” and “profoundly moving” (Kansas City Star). A Native of Boise, Idaho, Dr. Board has degrees from the University of Northern Colorado, Westminster Choir College, and UMKC, where he recently completed his Doctorate. His areas of research include the sacred vocal works of Dietrich Buxtehude and the use of rhetoric and affections in vocal works of the Baroque period.
